Day 3: Two Teams were Crowned on Championship Saturday

BIMINI, Bahamas – The Lady Bears of Baylor and the Chippewas of Central Michigan cruised to wins on Saturday to claim the Championships of the Junkanoo and Bimini Divisions of the 2017 Junkanoo Jam at Resorts World Bimini. Baylor’s Kalani Brown took home the MVP of the Junkanoo Division, while Central Michigan’s Presley Hudson was named MVP of the Bimini Division.

The eight ranked Baylor Lady Bears faced off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the first game of Championship Saturday. Baylor was able to hold Georgia Tech to only 8 firth-quarter points and led by 10 behind Kalani Brown’s 13 points and 7 rebounds at the break. The Lady Bears kept the Yellow Jackets at arm’s length the reminder of the game and cruised to a 58-40 win. The stout defense of Baylor held Georgia Tech to less than 30 percent shooting from the field on their way to claim the Junkanoo Division Championship. Kalani Brown finished with 21 points on 9-11 shooting and 11 rebounds. She was named the 2017 Junkanoo Division most valuable player, while teammate Lauren Cox was voted to the All-Star Team. Elo Edeferioka of Georgia Tech was name to the All-Star team as well.

In the second game of the afternoon, The Tulane Green Wave dismantled the San Diego Aztecs in an 80-46 win to take 3rd place in the Bimini Division. Tulane’s Kolby Morgan finished with 24 points with six 3-pointers and was named to the 2017 Bimini Division All-Star team.
The finale of the 2017 Junkanoo Jam saw the Iowa State Cyclones face off against Central Michigan Chippewas. The Chippewas took a nine-point first half lead behind 18 points from Presley Hudson. She was nearly perfect from the field as she was 4-4 from three and 5-6 from the field in the half. Central Michigan would coast to an 81-60 win to claim the 2017 Bimini Division Championship. Presley Hudson would be given the divisional most valuable player award for her effort during the tournament and teammate Tinara Moore was named to the division’s All-Star team. Iowa State’s Emily Durr and Bridget Carleton were also named to the All-Star team.
