Georgia 70, Minnesota 58
Georgia’s Caliya Robinson dropped 30 points in a 70-58 victory over Minnesota. Robinson was complemented by the Bulldogs’ Pachis Roberts, who recorded a double-double in the tournament’s opening game.
The Bulldogs held the Gophers to .271 (19-of-70) shooting in the game. Despite a 20-point effort from Minnesota’s Kenisha Bell, and a trio of double-digit scorers, the Gophers were unable to keep pace with Georgia.
Game No. 2
North Carolina 55, South Florida 83
Kitija Laksa scored 34 points for South Florida, as the Bulls cruised to an 83-55 victory over North Carolina. Laksa recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds in the contest and was assisted by teammates Ariana Pujol (26 points) and Maria Jeperson (10 rebounds).
The Tar Heels struggled from the floor, finishing 23-of-72 (.319). UNC’s Paris Kea scored 20 points along with 13 points from Stephanie Watts. North Carolina’s defense kept the contest close at the beginning, by forcing USF into 20 total turnovers.
